Elon Musk Deleted Tweet Comparing Canadian PM Justin Trudeau to German Dictator Adolf Hitler

Elon Musk deleted his incendiary tweet comparing Trudeau with Hitler despite his protest against Canada invoking the Emergency Act.

Outspoken billionaire businessman Elon Musk recently posted a tweet comparing Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Adolf Hitler. The comparison from Musk, which was a reply to crypto enthusiasts, included a photo of Hitler with the phrase “stop comparing me to Justin Trudeau” and “I had a budget.” Musk’s offensive tweet likening Trudeau to the infamous Nazi Party leader came after the Canadian PM imposed strict measures against truckers protesting Covid health protocols. According to the Canadian government, it was going to end the truckers’ protest by freezing bank accounts and sharing crypto addresses with financial institutions.

Trudeau invoked the rarely-used Emergency Act to contain the situation. The invocation ushered  new police and government powers as an amendment, essentially classifying the protesters as terrorists and allowing banks and similar institutions to freeze all conventional bank accounts – including crypto-related ones.

The Canadian Civil Liberties Association (CCLA) has pledged to fight the government measures taken on the protesters. In an official release, the association stated that it would look to block the government from deploying the Emergencies Act. Among other things, the CCLA’s Executive Director Noa Mendelsohn Aviv said that the body has hired a lawyer to sue the federal government. Furthermore, Aviv said:

“We have said all along that the federal government did not meet the high burden necessary to invoke the Emergencies Act.”

Elon Musk’s ‘Hitler’ Tweet About Trudeau Sparked Heavy Backlash

In a show of support to the aggrieved truckers, Musk tweeted the ‘Hitler’ meme on Wednesday night which sparked a Twitter storm. The Tesla CEO swiftly pulled the tweet down the next day. However, by then, several Twitter users had taken to the platform to voice their displeasure.

One of the disapproving tweets from Xeni, an American weblogger and tech culture journalist, read:

“Elon Musk is posting Adolf Hitler memes. Havin a normal Nazi day, this man who runs a company that partners with NASA. This is unacceptable. This is anti-Jewish hate.”

Another tweet by “whosthatgurrrl” seemed to liken Musk to Hitler for comparing Trudeau to the German dictator. The tweet read:

“Elon Musk thinks Hitler was a better leader than Trudeau. Elon Musk is a Nazi.”

Yet another tweet from “Dr Birinder Narang” questioned Musk’s sense of judgement. In addition, the tweet also suggested that the Tesla CEO’s tweet came across as insensitive to those still traumatized from the effects of Hitler’s atrocities.

“Looks like @elonmusk took down his Trudeau/Hitler comparison tweet. Maybe someone told him how idiotic it was. We rush far too fast to Hitler/Nazi comparisons. It is detrimental to all impacted by Nazis & Hitler, who still are living through traumatic consequences,” Narang’s tweet read.
